Rob’s Gig Guide: 19th – 25th August 2013

Gigs continue to be slow on the ground, with the shadows of Forfey, Stendhal and Sunflower festival all looming large. Next week the gig guide will be taking a break since there are literally no local shows on but I’ve just about managed to squeeze together three not to be missed shows for the coming days.

Hidden Machine #05: Ciaran Lavery – Voodoo, Belfast – Thursday 24th July 2014

Spirited singer songwriter Ciaran Lavery headlines the fifth iteration of Hidden Machine with a rare full band appearance. Fresh from a successful EP launch and some huge listening figures on Spotify, should see the Aghagallon native in fine form. Support from Spies and Kickstart finalists Runabay.

Admission is £5 on the door

Volume Control: The Emerald Armada – Oh Yeah Music Centre, Belfast – Friday 25th July 2014

If you haven’t been to an Emerald Armada gig by now, you must surely be in the minority. Based on a captivating live show the band continue to sell out venues, including their recent EP launch in the Limelight 2. Expect to have wave after wave of glorious harmonies wash over you. Support from Jamie Neish and Matthew Duly.

Tickets are £5 on the door

Breed Spittin’ Teeth – Pavilion, Belfast – Friday 25th July 2014

Breed returns with a ferocious line-up for July. The headliners reference their music as “Dirtbag music for Dirtbags”, but really if you enjoy a combination of sludge and punk, Spittin’ Teeth should prove very worthy indeed. Support from Acid Age and THVS (featuring members from Comply or Die).

Admission is £5 on the door
