Unexpected Ways Music Can Improve Your Well-Being

Some reports suggest that the average person listens to 35 hours of music per week. We hear music in waiting rooms, restaurants, offices, and in our homes and cars. People listen to music while they are driving to and from work to unwind and release stress. Music is a powerful tool. Check out this article by Lottoland for some great information.

You are not going to order more food, so they want you to move on and make room for the net guest. How does this help you? By learning to tune the music out, you can practice better eating habits which are good for your health.

Metabolic stabilizing

What are you trying to accomplish in order to improve your health? Are you doing yoga, deep breathing, or sauna treatments? Incorporate the slow music that urges you to go with the flow. The music encourages your mind to push deeper, and continue.

Are you trying to get in shape? An upbeat music temp will keep your pace steady and firm. Your body automatically conforms to that pace and you will burn more calories. Balancing your high-performance and your moderate work-outs for metabolic stabilizing.

It will make you Smarter!

How many times have you popped on your headphones and blasted some rock songs while you studied for your exams? While it probably drove your parents mad, it turns out you were on to something. In 1993, researchers from the University of Wisconsin conducted a study on 36 college-aged students.  Okay, they used Mozart (not rock music) on ⅓ of the group, silence on ⅓ of the group, and nature sounds on the final ⅓ of the group. Then they gave them a series of memory and complex problems like you would find in math.  In just 10-minutes of the music testing, the group listening to music improved on their IQ level by 7%. There was no change in the other two groups at all.  Scientists conclude that music improves concentration levels and memory levels of the human brain.

 

Music helps heal brain damage

We have been talking about how music affects the normal human brain. But, what about the damaged human brain? Landspital University Hospital in Iceland conducted a test on 38 Alzheimers patients.  The patients were divided into two groups. Half of the patients were given 6-weeks of focused music therapy. The other half were used as control patients.

At the end of the 6 weeks, the patients the subjects were tested according to the BEHAVE-AD standard. This test measures the paranoid ideation anxiety, and activity disturbances of the patients. The group given the music therapy experienced a 20% reduction in the BEHAVE-AD score and the control group showed a 13% reduction. This is a surprising and exciting finding. 

You hear music almost everywhere you go. You hear it so much that you probably do not notice it. You hear selected music that is chosen to manipulate your behavior.
