Runabay wandered out of the Glens of Antrim in early 2014 and impressed us with their folkish tendencies. The six piece band released their debut EP in June 2015 but since then with the exception of a few gigs, they have been fairly quiet.
The band have broken cover again and are ready to unveil their first piece of new music. The new single ‘Woodpecker’ is a gloriously rich release that can instantly be compared with the likes of Fleet Foxes and Dawes. The impeccable harmonies from their debut remain intact but the sound is fresher and fuller, in no small part down to the extra instrumentation suggested by producer Declan Legge. Filmed and produced by the team at Empty Horoscope Media, here is the video in all its glory.
We have spent the last 8 or 9 months focusing primarily on writing and recording new material. We wanted to dedicate as much time as possible to creating a set that would work well and reflect our evolving sound. I think the new tracks will have more of an edge to them than previous material. This wasn’t necessarily intentional, but an organic process.
We felt Declan Legge was the right person for us to work with, to help us realise the vision we have for the new tracks. The first song we are releasing is entitled ‘Woodpecker.’ The song tells a story and documents a journey….we hope that comes across in the lyrics. It works really well as a live song with its prominent and pounding beat, which made it an obvious single from our perspective.
