So often home to Northern Ireland’s best music, it should be no surprise when another stellar song or songwriter finds its way to us from the Maiden City. Songstress Emily McCormick who performs under the name Bairie has just graced us with her latest release ‘Rambling Boys’.
Having played under previous guises McCormick’s Bairie combines various influences but there is an undoubted streak of worldly and sweet folk running through ‘Rambling Boys’. The follow up to her debut single ‘Mr Green’, there is a much fuller sound with McCormick’s caramel voice sitting pretty in jazz-flecked percussion, keys and floating Byrds-esque guitars. Lyrics of ‘velvet rivers’ and conversational tones are all delivered within charismatic melodies.
There is plenty to like about ‘Rambling Boys’, the vocals are sweet and alluring while everything is wrapped in a warm folk sound with enough quirk to elevate it. A great edition to the first single and a further promising sign of an artist finding her own voice.
