It’s hard to overstate the rise of Ciaran Lavery in the last few years. The husky voiced folk singer has built himself a formidable reputation. His success in Northern Ireland has been matched with a number of tours abroad, including a few shows at South by Southwest. Perhaps the biggest marker of Lavery’s success lies on Spotify, with ‘Shame’ receiving 18 million plays. That track featured on 2013’s ‘Not Nearly Dark’. The expectations on new material are surely sky-high.
Three years on and, his Ryan Vail collaboration aside, Lavery is building up to a new album and those expectations look to be met. ‘Return to Form’ is the first single from the upcoming album, ‘Let Bad In’. The track embodies everything that Lavery has built his reputation on. Lavery’s smoky vocals lie in a bed of finger-picked guitar and gentle folk instrumentation. Considering his recent output, it’s no surprise to see an equally wonderful video to match, filled with childhood imagination.
‘Let Bad In’ is available to pre-order from Ciaran Lavery’s official website. The album is set for release on 27th May 2016.
