Forming around 2015, Vokxen are hardly a new force in Northern Irish music. But through line up changes and quiet periods, we’ve been a little starved of new music from the all female trio. The band are looking to change that in 2018, leading with new single ‘Running’.
Having set their stall out early, it’s no surprise that ‘Running’ sees the band pull off another big pop song. Living up to their electro-pop tag, a mix of eighties inspired synths and keys mix with the track’s steady beat to provide the backdrop to Claire McCartney’s strong vocals as she sings about pushing forward. There’s a clear comparison to the classic pop of the past but the slick sounds and production root Voxken’s music firmly in the present. Accompanying the track is an equally soft neon video, directed by Tommy Hughes.
In ‘Running’, Vokxen have played to their strengths, releasing a shimmering pop tune that showcases their knack for a good chorus.
