Introducing #14 – Those Ghosts

THOSE GHOSTS are such a brand new band that they haven’t even played their first show yet! (that happens on March 16 at Dicey Reillys in Strabane). We were so impressed with their debut EP that we just had to grab a quick chat with them to ask them the usual ten ‘introducing’ questions – and here’s what vocalist and guitarist, aodhan, had to say …

▶ Tell us the interesting story behind the bands moniker.

Aodhan: The band name came about when I told the lads about an incident involving myself at Glasgowbury 2011 after I’d had a few too many mountaintop cocktails. Basically in my inebriated state I was convinced there was a Ghost in my tent with a mobile phone and I, to put it mildly, freaked out! So that’s where the name Those Ghosts came from in a nutshell.

▶ When did the band form and how long did it take to find the bands own sound?

Danny, Shane and Gerard had talked about putting a group together around October 2012 and then on a night out together they asked if I would be interested in joining. We’ve all been friends for ages anyway so it was an easy decision to say yes! When we eventually got together at the start of November the results in practice were instantaneous. There was no messing about and playing together really just clicked.

▶ What releases have you put out thus far, and which would be the one to listen to for the uninitiated?

We’ve just released our debut EP and the three tracks, “Evelyn,” “Explain” and “White,” are available as a free download on our SoundCloud page. It’s tough to choose one for the uninitiated but if I had to I’d probably recommend “Evelyn.”

▶ Is there a particular live show that stands out amongst all the rest?

So far we haven’t even done a live show! Our debut gig is on the 16/3/13 and id looking like it may live long in the memory. It’s the first night that Dicey Reilly’s Strabane will be re-opening as a venue and we’re lucky to be sharing the stage with other fantastic local Acts, Gerard i2 and Fear the virus. It should be something special!

▶ Can you talk about a Highlight and a Lowlight of the journey so far?

To be honest everything so far has been a highlight. Creating something so new and exciting has all four of us constantly buzzing! The best feeling so far though would have to be releasing the tracks over Soundcloud and all the subsequent positive responses has really made what we’re trying to do feel worth while and justified.

▶ What does ‘success’ mean to the band?

I think from the out set our main priority and definition of ‘success’ was to create something that worked and really get people excited about local music again. I think we still have that mentality going forward and so far we seem to be achieving it.

▶ You are in control of forming a 4 piece ‘super group’ – who is in it and what do they do?

Eddie Vedder – vocals
John Frusciante – Guitar
Les Claypool – Bass
Neil Peart – Drums

▶ If you and 3 bands of your choosing were to do a tour, who would the other 3 bands be?

Biffy Clyro
Pearl Jam
Kerbdog

▶ If you could make one strange dressing room demand, what would it be and why?

An exact /fully functional replica of the assault course from BBCs Total Wipeout.

▶ Finally, in a climate saturated with bands vying for listener attention; why should the good old folks at home listen to you guys?

We put everything we possibly can into the music we’re creating really hope that comes across when people hear us. It’s a no-nonsense, honest sound but most of all it’s fun!

Have a listen to ‘Evelyn’ Below;
