Introducing #12 – Gin Craze

Daveit Ferris by Daveit Ferris

in Interviews, Introducing
Gin Craze – Gin Craze

▶ Tell us the interesting story behind the bands moniker.

“Gin Craze” was actually a period of history ( first half of the 18th century ) in Great Britain, where the consumption of Gin increased so rapidly, that the Government had to step in to try and control matters; people were having too much of a good time!

▶ When did the band form and how long did it take to find the bands own sound?

The band formed roughly around the beginning of 2011; we’ve had a couple of member changes, overseas commitments and whatnot, so it would be fair to say that our current lineup only settled down this year. In terms of sound, we had a clear idea from the beginning of the style and feel of music we wanted to write. We spent a lot of time in the studio; writing, listening, tweeking everything until we were happy with our material.

▶ What releases have you put out thus far, and which would be the one to listen to for the uninitiated?

We released our debut EP at the end of August 2012. It’s a good taster to what we’re about. Which one song to pick ? Depends on your mood; if you want something punchy, listen to “Drive”. If you want a ‘feel good’ song, listen to “Shore”. If you want something to shake to, listen to “I Can’t”.

▶ Is there a particular live show that stands out amongst all the rest?

Definitely the “Gorilla Monsoon Ball” in Auntie Annies; it was a great night. Dressing up in Gorilla suits and rockin the place was a good fun feeling. Think the downstairs bar got a surprise too when we burst through the doors monkied up !

▶ Can you talk about a Highlight and a Lowlight of the journey so far?

Highlight for me personally has been the audiences; they’ve been great. It’s a real joy to see people get down to your music and enjoy themselves – it’s what we want.

Lowlight –  Blackburn Rovers getting relegated from the Premier League. Touchy subject; I don’t want to talk about it. Grrr

▶ What does ‘success’ mean to the band?

As earlier, seeing people enjoying themselves to our music; you just can’t beat that.

▶ You are in control of forming a 4 piece ‘super group’ – who is in it and what do they do?

4 piece ? I’m sorry; I know we’re a 4 piece, but I have got to pick 5:

Mick Jagger – Vocals
Jay-Z – Vocals
Jimi Hendrix – Guitar
Paul McCartney – Bass
John Bonham – Drums

▶ If you and 3 bands of your choosing were to do a world tour, who would the other 3 bands be?

I’m guessing this question refers only to those alive ? In Dreamland it would be Prince, Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. That would be one hell of a night!

▶ If you could make one strange dressing room demand, what would it be and why?

Fridge full of the best champagne – we’d get the party started :p

▶ Finally, in a climate saturated with bands vying for listener attention; why should the good old folks at home listen to you guys?

We’ve got attitude. We’re uptempo. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. We want you to move your head. We want you to rock. We want to get the people going!
