Introducing #13 – August

August are Jonny Everett. JB McNicholl & Eunan McLaughlin. A very promising outfit that have literally just released their debut single. Keeping it absolutely DIY; the band wrote and produced the song themselves, and this DIY approach is one that they are fully intending on implementing going forward. We fired frontman Jonny our usual 10 ‘introducing’ questions, here’s what he had to say …

▶ Tell us the interesting story behind the bands moniker.

Jonny: We’ve always wanted to work together on a project but we were always busy with other stuff, musically. Eunan being in Leeds threw it off, but we were always in contact.

▶ When did the band form and how long did it take to find the bands own sound?

I’ve been been writing songs for ages. This is a different sound, different expression for all of us and we gelled as soon as we began to jam. We’re also happy with the warm feel, it helped to inspire the name.

▶ What releases have you put out thus far, and which would be the one to listen to for the uninitiated?

We’ve just launched our Bandcamp with the single ‘Counting Hearts’ from our debut EP ‘Foreign disco’, set for release around Easter.

▶ Is there a particular live show that stands out amongst all the rest?

The first show we did was in a coffee shop, the reaction was far greater than we expected, good buzz.

▶ Can you talk about a Highlight and a Lowlight of the journey so far?

A Highlight would be hearing the finished product of ‘Counting Hearts’ – It turned out the way we wanted it to… honest. We haven’t had any low points yet, we’re only through the gates with this.

▶ What does ‘success’ mean to the band?

Success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose and our aim was to get together finally to collaborate on songs. Write, record, produce and release. The purpose of it all is the fulfilment within that. We aren’t seeking popularity or profit, it would just be a bonus if that happened to come our way.

▶ You are in control of forming a 4 piece ‘super group’ – who is in it and what do they do?

Matt Berlinger – Front man
Peter hook – Bass
Paul Leonard Morgan – Strings
Steve Gadd – Drums

▶ If you and 3 bands of your choosing were to do a tour, who would the other 3 bands be?

Frightened rabbit
The Seeds
The Police

▶ If you could make one strange dressing room demand, what would it be and why?

The chairman of Kenco coffee pouring a fresh cup when desired.

▶ Finally, in a climate saturated with bands vying for listener attention; why should the good old folks at home listen to you guys?

Listen to us because we are honest and raw. Also, they’re deep lyrics with storytelling, and people relate to that.
