◀ Q & A ▶

▶ Tell us about your band name

Our name evolved over a period of a few weeks, starting from Spotter to Spot the Fool. We settled on it because we thought it sounded fun, different and could be have multiple meanings, all of which are up you to think about and decide on yourself.

▶ When did you start playing music and how would you describe your sound?

As a band we started in August of 2016. Our sound is a mixture of a lot of different things, from grunge to punk to alt-rock. We have even been compared to new wave bands and post hardcore stuff.

▶ What releases have you put out so far?

We have released one EP, called Quiet Objects Raging Loud, in December 2016.

▶ Is there a particular live show that stands out amongst all the rest?

We haven’t played too much live as of yet, but definitely a stand out was debuting a new song at the Rainbow Factory, the response was amazing for a song that we believed to be very controversial and possibly even a step too far… but people seemed to love it.

▶ Can you talk about a Highlight and a low point of the journey so far?

Highlight is probably being able to put out an EP, the whole process was amazing. I would say there haven’t really been many low points for us apart from a tiny bit of negative feedback we got, but we have taken it on board and learned from it all.

▶ If you weren’t a musician(s) how would you spend your spare time?

If we didn’t play music we would all be doing different things. Jordan would be racing motorbikes most likely, Jamie would be watching Star Wars, and Jacob would be just sitting.. doing nothing.

▶ If you were to go on a world tour and you could pick any 3 acts come along, who would they be?

3 acts we would pick would have to be our boys in Surf Green, another awesome local band called Petty Youth and probably a slightly bigger band, VANT being the main one that pops into my head because they are awesome and good friends.

▶ What would be the 3 strangest things on your rider if you were able to make any demand?

Complete box set of all the Star Wars for Jamie, probably Kinder Buenos for Jacob. And we’d ask for some grapes I’d imagine too.

▶ Is there a particular aim or goal which you hope to achieve through music?

This is something more personal to each of us. Personally I (Jacob) aim to get a message across to people, give people some hope that there are other people who feel their frustration at what’s going on in the world. I aim to help people who are struggling through my music.

▶ Who has been your biggest inspiration as musicians?

We all have a lot of different inspirations. Jordan’s is definitely Billie Joe Armstrong, Jamie’s is most likely Tom DeLonge and mine would have to be the whole band VANT.

▶ Are there any other Northern Irish musicians we should check out?

Definitely check out Surf Green and Red House. They are two of the best acts in the scene currently. Also, The Bell Diver Spiders are amazing guys and have some awesome music too.

▶ What is next for you?

Next for us, well there is a lot. We plan a massive streak of gigs with some of the acts we mentioned before, playing all over Belfast and the surrounding area. We also have another release coming very soon, or multiple releases. They are less than a month away and we are all very excited to share a whole new chapter of Spot the Fool with the world.
