2018 is currently shaping up to be a tantalising year for heavy metal festival-goers across the U.K. With line-ups for Download Festival and Bloodstock Open Air gradually taking shape, those from across the heavier side of the musical spectrum have plenty to look forward to during the summer months. But who says you have to wait until then?!

Within the bowels of Belfast’s legendary Mandela Hall venue at Queen’s University Belfast’s SU building, Plain Living Promotions presents ‘Crypt of the Riff’: a veritable who’s-who of the finest in sludge/doom metal from across Ireland. Featuring the likes of Belfast’s Elder Druid, last year’s ‘Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses: Ireland’ winners zhOra and more, May 18th 2018 shall see this one-day extravaganza being headlined by Leicestershire melodic doom four-piece Garganjua in their debut Belfast date.

We spoke to the man behind it all, Jake Wallace, “The idea for the festival came about from the conception of Plain Living Promotions. It is a promo company I started recently with Tyrell Black from Electric Octopus. Our first main endeavour was to run a 1-day fest in Belfast with a selection of riff-heavy bands.

Those coming to Crypt of the Riff can expect a showcase of some of Ireland’s greatest riffing talent as well as a mind-blowing experience from watching Garganjua headline. There will also be free food cards from Bubbacue handed out on the night. With the impending upgrades being made to Mandela Hall, this may also be one of the very last metal fests in Bar Sub ever.”

Tickets for Crypt of the Riff are £10 on the door or £8 in advance. Advance tickets are available at WeGotTickets.
