Chris Campbell, one of the most promising Singer/Songwriters Northern Ireland has seen in recent times, is embarking on a ‘Kickstarter’ Campaign in order to fund his next EP. We think this is a great idea, so we spoke to the man himself to find out a little more about why he decided to go down this route and what he thinks about crowdsourcing in general. (You can get involved by clicking Here)

I have big ambitions for this year & since just about everything costs money to achieve I thought crowdsourcing the upcoming EP would be a great way to keep momentum going & eliminate the need to prioritise between one thing or another. Every penny I earn goes back into touring in some form & so with the help of supporters & friends I can keep producing music & performing simultaneously. It would likely take a lot longer for these songs to be heard in the way they were intended were it not for the amazing support of everyone who is backing the project so far.

I think crowdsourcing is a brilliant, honest & incredibly encouraging tool. It’s something I love to see people be a part of because after all the music that is funded is for the people who listen to it & (hopefully!) really love it. Whenever I buy a album I always feel good knowing that in some small way it is supporting an artist I look up to, so the fact that we can now actually have a direct impact on a piece of work being created is such a wonderful thing to me.. it’s kind of a touching idea, really!

We’re only a few days in right now (out of a total 30 days) & already we’re passed the half way mark so its looking pretty promising. The support so far has been awesome – so encouraging.

For anyone who pledges there’s a variety of rewards ranging from a hard copy of the EP to limited edition screenprints to a personal house party show.
// [highlighter color=”red”]And finally, what’s the EP like?[/highlighter]
Its a pretty big step away from the first EP ‘Paperboats’, I’ve had a ton more time to demo extensively & I’m really get a feeling for the EP as a whole experience. It’s kind of a concept record which is going to a little more delicate & ambient (with a lot of layered vocals on a couple of tracks). I’ve had more of a chance to experiment with this one & I hope its gonna be a pretty ambient, affecting listen.

Chris is over half-way to completing this project (a project that won’t be allowed to happen unless he reaches 100% of his meagre £800 goal), so run over to his Kickstarter page HERE and invest in a true talent.
