NI Music Prize Shortlist announced

The shortlist for the Northern Ireland Music Prize has just been announced with twelve artists showcasing the wealth of talent our wee country has to offer. Now in its fourth year, the NI Music Prize winner will be announced at the awards night on 11th November in Belfast’s Mandela Hall, following a second round of voting.

The twelve albums shortlisted are:

The Bonnevilles – Arrow Pierce My Heart

Ciaran Lavery – Let Bad In

David C Clements – The Longest Day In History

Documenta – Drone Pop #1

exmagician – Scan The Blue

Foy Vance – The Wild Swan

Girls Names – Arms Around A Vision

Jealous of the Birds – Parma Violets

Michael Mormecha – LOFi LiFE

Ports – The Devil Is A Songbird

Ryan Vail – For Every Silence

Sea Pinks – Soft Days

The shortlist was voted for by more than 70 judges from the NI music industry and media. Another round of voting will take place before the winner is announced at the awards night. Downpatrick luminaries Ash will be presented with the Oh Yeah Legend Award on the night, playing their ‘1977’ album in full at the end of the evening. Also playing will be nominees Jealous of the Birds, Ports and Girls Names.

Previous winners of the NI Music Prize include SOAK, Robyn G Shiels and Foy Vance, who is the running yet again this year.

"Supporting local is the way forward. We want venues that are locally run, supporting local bands, but bringing big bands in too. I’m very optimistic, I think it’s going to be wonderful when it all opens up.”
