The Late Twos – ‘Never Mind’

The Late Twos – ‘Never Mind’

There can often be a beauty in simplicity, but also what may seem simple can, in fact, be tricky. If writing catchy, instant Indie Pop was simple, surely everyone would be doing it and the charts awash with it? Many try and many fail, or get written off as pale imitations of something that has gone on before.

The Late Twos sound is not new, nor does the band make any claim to the contrary A reasonably recent comparison would be The Libertines, but with a touch more softness in the melody which reminds me of The Housemartins, thanks in part to the smokey tone of Matt Legge’s voice. What The Lates Twos don’t do, thankfully in my book, is try to be anything but themselves. They are not like their countrymen The Strypes, lifting an entire image and style from a bygone era. I like that about them; less contrived, more natural.

And why should they try to be anything other than what they are when they can write songs as immediate as ‘Never Mind’ and when they are getting the recognition up and down the country from live audiences and radio stations? They have already got this far in a short time, from their inception in 2011, through to the release of their self-titled E.P. earlier this year and culminating in a UK/Ireland tour this past Autumn. Things are moving quickly for the band, as they need to do, for music of this genre tends to have a short shelf-life. But with songs as infectious as ‘Never Mind’ the boys have a real shot.

‘Never Mind’ is available now to pre-order at https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/nevermind/

The band’s next gig is at the Oh Yeah Centre on Friday 13th December.
