London/ Belfast duo Rews (consisting of Shauna Tohill and Colette Williams) were nominated for ‘Best Unsigned British Song’ for their single ‘Death Yawn’, and follow up release ‘Miss You In The Dark’ is equally strong.
A song about “the realisation that you don’t need someone who is poisonous in your life anymore”, it’s got an enjoyably dirty glam-rock stomp to go with it’s defiant lyrics. The assault of fellow female duo Deap Vally springs to mind, although Rews colour their sound with touches of warm synth, adding a poppy edge. It’s a blast, and well worth checking out.
