Watch: Dena Anuk$a – My G

Dena Anuk$a

British Egyptian rappers are surely hard to come by in Belfast, but one Dena Anuk$a is out to make a name for herself. Following on from last year’s ‘Yay’, she has just dropped her latest single ‘My G’.

Drawing from neo soul and hip hop, ‘My G’ leans towards the former with her fluid vocal lines rhyming over smooth and simple beats. A short, melodic and tantalising addition to a budding career. The international sound here has been born out of Anuk$a’s varied upbringing, spending time in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Newcastle and now Belfast.

Anuk$a came to our attention following her involvement in last year’s Scratch My Progress, the Oh Yeah’s talent development programme reaching out to new genres. The equally effortless ‘Yay’ was an intriguing introduction with ‘My G’ keeping the same spirit of its predecessor.

A regular DJ in addition to her talents as songwriter and producer, Anuk$a is part of a hip hop community in Belfast that is starting to grow and perhaps link up with the flourishing scene in Ireland. Anuk$a plays the Oh Yeah Centre on 21st February as part of Output Belfast.
