The combined talents of Carl Small, Wilson Davidson and frontman Chris Leckey regularly look to the punk and hardcore of bands like Unwound and Fugazi, and the self-produced ‘Petri Dish’ is no different. A rolling assault of dissonance and movement, the track has a structure that gives space to a plethora of riffs and Leckey’s angered vocals. The band describe the track as ‘a meditation on panic and moral compass in the face of impending doom’. It’ll come as no surprise then that it was written, alongside the bulk of the album, during the course of lockdown and the global pandemic; a sense of frustration that rings out through the song’s loud/not quite quiet moments.

A sign of things to come, ‘Petri Dish’ is the first single from Mob Wife’s self-produced debut album, one that hints as new sounds mixed with the heavier sensibility of ‘Petri Dish’ and all that’s come before.
