After a short hiatus, Ria Timkin is back with new music in the form of ‘Our Time‘.
‘Our Time’ has a real emphasis on the usage of synths that truly embody a reoccurring ambience-rich ostinato. The use of synth instrumentation merges with Ria’s rich, unique and emotive vocals, blending her sound into something that is unprecedented and trailblazing, making ‘Our Time’ right up any alt-pop dreamer’s street!
“We shot the video around the Durdle Door area in Dorset, UK, with the incredibly talented wildlife videographer Katie Vickers. At the planning stage, I had some ideas on how I wanted the video to look, but Katie took it to a whole new level – scouting stunning locations and creating truly epic shots. It’s one of the best visual collaborations I’ve ever had; she is absolutely incredible!
We also couldn’t have executed our ideas without Jamie McNamee, who acted as our prop man, throwing smoke bombs, creating a mystical atmosphere, and capturing behind-the-scenes moments along the way.
The shoot took two full days and was quite intense, with more than a few complications – Katie broke her finger and ended up in the ER at the end of day one, and I sadly got into a car accident at the end of day two. It was absolutely freezing, but we pushed through physically and mentally, and I’m incredibly proud of the video we created.”
Ria’s new music video does well to encapsulate the relatable feeling of the quiet certainty and resilience that an individual’s time will come. This storytelling truly happens from the very beginning, with the introduction featuring chimes of seagulls, alongside the resonance of ocean tides, before being further developed through scenic shots that are all set within places of nature.
These places are typically considered to be serene and soothing and it leaves the music video with a deep story of nascency, compelling the viewers with its magnetism.
The atmospheric experience of ‘Our Time’ was increasingly brought to life through the artistic droste-like effect of the cinematography shots, with an outline of Ria appearing within a larger outline of herself.
The rewinding of particular moments gave the impression that the story embodied the reality of trying to escape a constant loop of similarity through perseverance and grit.
