Five piece Lord Jane released their new EP ‘The Lifting of the Fog’ and it is absolutely exceptional! With a perfect mix between funky pop, post punk and alt-rock, this EP has something for everyone.

Their first song on the EP, ‘All I Know’, has an upbeat instrumental accompaniment which contrasts beautifully with the deep emotional complexity of Clodagh May’s lyrical melody. The instrumental introduction returns at the very end as the outro, creating a lasting impact on me as a listener.

The other standout on the record has to be ‘Kaleidoscopes’ which really lives up to the alternative side of Lord Jane’s music. The drums play an intricate rhythm that adds a pensive mood that compliments beautifully with the rhythm guitars. The outro creates a real intensity before an elongated instrumental climatic build that ensues at the very end. With a sudden drop out, leaving us with Clodagh’s soul-searching belt, creating a contemplative reflection on the meaning behind the song.

As their second release, The Lifting of the Fog is an unique and ruminative EP that explores an individuals way of expression and the lyrics reflect deep thoughts that are full of meaning. It can be easily recommended to listeners who relish pop, punk or alt-rock genres, and those who like songs with a deeper meaning. Lord Jane’s distinctive sound never fails to impress!
