Cherym just can’t stop climbing! 2019 has been a very good year for the threesome with notable achievements including; playing the Stendhal Festival, Electric Picnic and winning the Oh Yeah Contender Award at the NI Music Prize ceremony. With the release of ‘Abigail’ the group have shown us they are not slowing down as they continue to dominate the local scene.
Their latest pop punk tune will have you on your feet singing every word back. Cherym are flying the flag high not just for female groups on the island but also keeping pop punk alive on the local scene. Not since Mugged By A Ghost and No Matter have I heard a single so fresh and true to the genre. Its bright guitar tones and relatable lyrics are fresh and reminiscent of bands from the early noughties.
Speaking to the band about how this song is different to anything they have written in the past they said that “this song sorta paves the way forward for more music that we’re writing at the minute because our writing style has changed big time in the last six months. This is a song that means the most to us compared to anything else we have written and its nice it can sit in the light for a bit.”.
The girls are in high spirits after a successful 2019 and it’s only going to keep getting better. The girls left me with a positive note saying “the bond we have now as a band is stronger than ever which feels amazing and even more so, we’re ready to take over the world come the New Year”.
