Songwriter Lauren Bird has always been a popular figure at Chordblossom, her personal and simple storytelling folk pop was laid bare on her debut album The Inbetween back in 2017. It has however been a bit of wait since last single, ‘I’m Not’. Thankfully she’s returned to illuminate the end of 2020 with new single ‘Millennials‘.

While Bird has always gone hand in hand with her ukulele sound, ‘Millennials’ is a different twist, with a gentle guitar line that builds in texture and urgency. On ‘Millennials’, the Strabane songwriter follows the thread of modern anxieties, described by Bird as ‘a love letter to my generation’, reflecting on the shared difficulties for the millennial generation. It’s a sincere style of songwriting that she’s followed from the very beginning, but the new sounds evident on the new single show a renewed impetus for Lauren Bird. Understated in its delivery, ‘Millennials’ allows her relatable lyrics to come to the fore.

‘Millennials’ marks the former Kickstart winner‘s return, a bright spot as the year draws to a close, a song that suggests progression rather than reinvention.
