Ajenda – ‘Tattoo’

Ajenda – ‘Tattoo’

I’ve been very privileged in my first year of reviewing for Chordblossom to have been given several top class albums by local bands and Ajenda’s recently released album, ‘Unrecognisable’, is right up there with my favourites. I think it’s always telling, after I’ve finished a period of intense listening to an album I have been assigned to review, that I want to put the album on again in the following days and weeks. ‘Unrecognisable’ is one such album and after all these listens ‘Tattoo’ is my favourite song on the album, so I was delighted to hear it was the first single to be released.

Ajenda is a band that is hard to pigeonhole and yet, as a reviewer, it is often what has to be done to give the reader a feeling for the band before they get a chance to hear them, maybe even influence their decision to take the time to give them a listen. Ajenda made that job difficult for me when I reviewed their album. I wanted to convey that it is a Rock band but one that has a very keen sense of melody, more than enough to give it serious crossover appeal. ‘Unrecognisable’ has a hard side with songs like ‘Hatred & Greed’ and a soft side as with ‘Other Side’, which I believe should be the next single as it has so much commercial appeal. But what ‘Tattoo’ does is encapsulate both sides of Ajenda perfectly within the confines of one song.

‘Tattoo’ has everything you look for in a top Rock song with chart appeal. It has the edge both in terms of music and lyrics but also subtlety and moments of emotional fragility. It has rise and fall, it has more than one vocal hook and it has fabulous performances musically and vocally. In short, it is perfection from start to finish. Get it. Get the album. Get the T-Shirt. Get the mug. And get yourself along to see them in the flesh.

Get the message?
