Other Voices Belfast 2017

If you examine the bucket list of many Irish music fans and musicians, you would be sure to find the opportunity to play at Other Voices right near the top. Each December sees the best artists from Ireland along with a handful of international ones play across a multitude of intimate venues in the small town of Dingle in Co Kerry. There is a huge demand from music fans for tickets but with such limited numbers available, most have to watch the performances on TV. For fans in Northern Ireland, there is exciting news that Other Voices will be visiting Belfast this month.

Over three days Other Voices will bring to Belfast a series of events designed to encourage discussions, collaborations, and a thriving community through music and technology, with of course a stunning concert to close out proceedings. The event listings are as follows:-

  • Thursday 26th & Friday 27th October 2017 – The Digital DNA Quarter: A host of workshops and talks from key players in the digital and creative sectors aimed at schools, youth groups and community organisations.
  • Saturday 28th October 2017 (afternoon) – The Belfast Edge: A special half day conference that looks at the role and potential impact of creativity in building a better and brighter Belfast for all. The conference is free to attend but you must register your interest here.
  • Saturday 28th October 2017 (evening) – The Other Voices Stage: A special evening of live music featuring sets from Grammy shortlisted trad giants Beoga, lo-fi acoustic gems from Portadown’s Jealous of the Birds, Kildare pop-rock, arena touring duo Picture This, the spine-tingling atmospheric folk of Hampshire born, Donegal bred Rosie Carney and Derry purveyors of punk Touts.

Tickets to the Other Voices Stage on Saturday 28th October won’t be going on general sale but will instead by offered out through a series of competitions. Keep your eyes peeled to the Other Voices website for more information.

Welcoming Other Voices Belfast to the city, Lord Mayor of Belfast Councillor Nuala McAllister said: “As we prepare to submit our bid for European Capital of Culture 2023, the spotlight is being shone on the city’s thriving culture and arts scene, and what better timing for Belfast to host Other Voices – a fantastic initiative focusing on the city’s creative and digital industries. Since its inception in 2002, Other Voices has become one of the most significant music events in Ireland and has enjoyed global success, so I’m delighted that Belfast City Council is helping to bring it to Belfast for the first time and I hope it will be a precursor for more exciting events for the city. The ethos of Other Voices is about enthusing our young people, to get them involved in our creative industries, and to empower them with the practical skills to take forward their dreams and ambitions. And of course, it’s about showcasing some of our best musical talent.”
