Susie Blue, acoustic sing/songwriter hails from Derry, her main influences include, Tegan and Sara, Kings Of Leon, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Joan Baez. Through her EP you can hear glimpses of these influences but on a wider picture Susie has created her own sound and is a breath of fresh air for the local music scene.
Susie Blue has an angelic voice that you are immediately drawn in and need to listen to. The EP Stripped Bare contains four songs, including, ‘Who Knew It Could Rain’ which is the most relaxing song of the EP. It flows beautifully from start to finish and the lyrics are catchy that I found myself singing along to it after only a few listens to it. It tells a story and has that personal quality that helps people connect to it. ‘Sleepy Nights,’ has similar qualities to the previous song; the uniqueness of Susie’s voice sustains your attention, and how you can really hear the emotion in her voice throughout all the songs. I particularly like how this song is melodic yet there is added rawness in her voice. ‘Lisbeth’ has a more edgier, funkier rhythm to it compared to the others on the EP. All the textures of this song have all been combined to create a jazzy wee number that gets you bopping along with it. ‘Your Grip,’ is a quirky wee number, yet there is nothing I would change about it. The pace and variety is really alluring and helps make it a pleasant listen. Susie Blue is a talented artist and it will be interesting to watch and see where she makes it to in the future.
