Scarlett Drive – If I Knew Your Name
Perth indie rockers Scarlett Drive are back with a new single and it caught our ear. ‘If I Knew Your Name’ is a bright and fizzing reflection on the honey mood period of relationships. There is a distinctly poppy feel to proceedings here which is balanced out by the thoughtful and reaching lyrics. The vocals are particularly memorable and the introduction of new drummer Liam Culling seems to have added a fresh impetus for the outfit.
LULLANAS – 24:7
Indie folk pop, twin sister duo Atisha and Nishita Lulla team up with Tommy Ashby for the rather lush 24:7. The song is an appreciation of those who are always there for us regardless of the time or circumstance. 24:7 is characterised by its stunning vocal performances from the twins. They describe it as an “anthem of empathy” which fits the song perfectly. Sonically its quite stripped back which lends itself to be a soothing listen for the late night hours.
Portside – Icarus
Hailing from Birmingham, Portside capture the best bits from the likes of Tonight Alive and The Story So Far to deliver a punchy, pop rock anthem. The riffs are often chunky and intense while the vocal offers a melodic and nostalgic nature to the song. Icarus tackles the premise of falling for someone you know you shouldn’t and delivers on the range of emotions that come with such a situation.
