2018 is shaping up to be a rich musical year for Derry, never mind Northern Ireland. There’s a string of releases out there or on the way from the more established acts of the Maiden City but in Cherym there’s a much newer band vying to make waves. Here’s debut single, ‘Take It Back’.
The three piece all female band have built up plenty of buzz about themselves, having been going for scarcely a year. In that time, they’ve gigged around Northern Ireland and across to Scotland, earning a place on The Thin Air’s 18 for ’18 list. ‘Take It Back’ is the rocking first single. Decidedly punk, ‘Take It Back’ incorporates Pixies’ loud quiet loud, a no-nonsense level of energy and enough hooks in Hannah Richardson’s accented vocals to keep them firmly on the poppier end of the punk spectrum. Picture them somewhere between Northern Ireland’s Sister Ghost and Hand Models and you’re on the right path.
‘Take It Back’ is taken from their upcoming MouthBreatherz EP, recorded with Caolan Austin at Small Town America. They launched the single on Saturday night in Sandinos, Derry but there’s plenty more dates dotted around the country in March and April to ensure you don’t miss them.
