For yet another year, four artists provide concrete proof of the success of the Oh Yeah‘s talent development programme. Scratch My Progress has been providing invaluable experience for a selected group of artists for the past twelve years, with the Oh Yeah providing workshops, showcases, studio time and continued guidance to the four artists. The culmination of that is the Scratch My Progress release, with four tracks by the four artists: Garrett Laurie, HY:LY, Martha Greer & beat up car.
Garrett Laurie‘s ‘No Warning’ is another step in his unique songwriting voice. A song about queer relationships and lessons learned, Laurie’s vocals move between low-voiced verses, the big chorus, strings and organs. Showcasing the diversity of Scratch My Progress, next on the release is ‘Blindside’ by HY:LY. A spaced out track that combines the electronic artist’s various influences with drum & bass hints mixed with breathy, manipulated vocals.
Next up is singer-songwriter Martha Greer with ‘Mary’, her first release of 2024. A picture of indie-folk, it melds atmospherics with a jaunty chorus and an ambiguous admiration for the track’s subject. ‘Mary’ continues Greer’s knack for candid songwriting with youthful charm. New duo beat up car play out the four track release with the infectious ‘you need help (but you have to want it)’. An uptempo indie song with a strong hook, the track’s upbeat rhythms and sparkling synths highlights the message of striving to help yourself and positivity.
