Northern Ireland can be a strange place. Despite our small size, and the tight nit nature of the music scene, there’s always the potential to stumble across something completely new. A recent discovery was the new track from Derry’s Conor McAteer.
McAteer has released plenty of music over the years, under his own name and his We Are Aerials project. He has now released the first track from his forthcoming ‘I Was An Astronaut‘ album, set for release on 3rd June. ‘Boats’ is a stunning piece of music. Opening with quiet piano, a simple beat and McAteer’s vocals, the tracks builds with a beautiful string arrangement and floating vocals. At 6 minutes 46 seconds, McAteer gives himself plenty of time to develop the track through various movements and sounds, with horn and even noise elements returning the song to the stillness of the first half. The track is accompanied by nautical footage from Buster Keaton’s The Love Nest.
