Last year Belfast band Hiva Oa released their ‘mk II (part 1)’EP, their first since returning to Northern Ireland from a stint in Edinburgh. Across four tracks the band explored electronic influences, from the chaotic sounds on ‘A Great Height’ to the ominous romance of ‘Christine’. Now, following the announcement of a new EP, the band have released a video for ‘Jonny Brazil’.
The closer on their last release, ‘Jonny Brazil’ combines the keys elements of their record. A slow building track focused on Christine Tubridy’s percussion and a sea of synth and occasional guitar, it rises into an impassioned climax while Stephen Houlihan’s vocals hit on escapism and self-exploration. The accompanying beautifully shot video takes our faceless protagonist through rural landscapes and night-time streets.
The band released their first taste of their upcoming EP ‘mkII (part 2) last month with another synth heavy track ‘So Many Lies’. The EP is set for release in April.
