Acoustic Fires is primarily the work of Ballymena man, Stephen Rainey, who has enlisted the help of friends James Davidson and Kenny Gregg to produce this, first taster of what he has to offer. Rainey promises that there is more of this bigger production material to come but, for now, this will do quite nicely as an introduction.
Of course, I know how much talent there is in and around the ‘Mena (present company excluded) but also, sadly, how little avenue there is in the town, certainly for original music, to be heard. It’s not an unusual scenario across the Province I realise; the night time economy has not recovered sufficiently anywhere. So, it is important to give local artists some oxygen.
‘These Tears’ is a fine debut release from Rainey. The production is great, with Rainey’s fine vocals nice and high in the mix where they deserve to be. There is a feel of Coldplay and Damien Rice in there with the feeling of mellow wistfulness and a strong chorus to stick in the memory. All in all Acoustic Fires has done enough to at least sparked some interest (see what I did there?).
