It’s been a little while since ‘Diamonds for Eyes’ reminded us of the spectacular music we were missing when Ed Zealous aren’t around but ahead of a tentative Autumn release for their debut album we are treated with ‘Medicines’, a quite stunning amalgam of clipped synths, electro-fueled bass and a highly kinetic pace and sound that reaches eleven, and shoots right past it.
At this very moment, Ed Zealous and Not Squares are the trendsetters in sexy, extremely polished electro-rock. With “Medicines’ we have the raw floor filling DNA of the Bloody Beetroots and MSTRKRFT infused with an unmistakable 80’s vibe. These Belfast boys are a perfectionist bunch, and with the steady and ever reliable hand of Elliot James producing we have an effort that is explosive, crystal clear, relentless and an absolute joy to listen to. Their live performances are formidable and with a studio effort like this, it’s a war on multiple fronts being won with ease.
