Jordan Egan – Easy for an Angel

16 year old Jordan Egan suffers from a rare genetic disorder that  means she suffers from chronic pain. Facing the constant costly medical bills to ease her pain; Jordan devised a clever plan … She recorded a gorgeous song (that her mother wrote about her) and will use all of the proceeds from the sales in order to finance her medical expenses. Here’s a little bit more of her story:

It all began for Jordan 15 months ago when she was playing football with her brother and her cousin. She slipped and fell on her back. Since then she has felt constant pain. She has had a headache for months, which never goes away. She has since been diagnosed with ehlers-danlos syndrome.

This means she has to travel to London every six weeks for treatment, as there are simply no experts to treat her condition in Ireland.  Her family are paying for all of the treatment themselves as the cost is not being covered by the HSE or any private health insurer. In order to help cover the costs they have recorded a wonderful song – Easy for an Angel – which is sung by Jordan, penned by her mother Karen, to express how she feels about the whole situation.

The song is currently sitting comfortable in the top 5 iTunes downloads in Ireland.

We spoke to Jordan this week to find out a little bit more;

On the Writing of the Song: ‘My Mum wrote the song as a way for her to vent how she felt whenever I got sick. She wrote it in a day and we could have never imagined in those early days that we would end up in the top five in the Irish download charts because at that stage we couldn’t even imagine having the song recorded!’

On the Recording of the Song: ‘We recorded the song in Studio 404 in Carlow. Ollie Hennessy arranged and produced the song with sound engineer Frank McGing. I recorded my vocals in November last year, Aoife Kavanagh recorded the violin track and Dave Keary (of Van Morrisson fame) added in the guitar track. The mastered version was completed in April 2013.’

On the Response to the Song: ‘We have found the response absolutely amazing – it has been such a surreal experience! In the past week we have been on RTE’s ‘Saturday Night with Miriam’ and I have been on radio with George Hook on Newstalk! We have had a fantastic response on Facebook (‘Easy for an Angel’) and on Twitter (‘@EasyforanAngel)! Overall it has been an unbelievably amazing experience!’
