Northern Ireland Music Prize 2015 shortlist announced

The shortlist for 2015’s Northern Ireland Music Prize has been announced today. The list includes a number of big hitters including And So I Watch You From Afar, Therapy? and a previous Chordblossom Kickstart winner in SOAK who released her debut album ‘Before We Forgot How To Dream’ earlier this year. The shortlist was whittled down from an initial longlist by more than 70 people from the NI music industry and media.

SOAK’s nomination for the prize is just part of an exciting year for the Derry singer-songwriter. Her first album made the UK top 40, and she has since toured the world including a busy festival season. Tim Wheeler may have had two appearances on the list with the release of Ash’s latest album but he appears here with his first ever solo album ‘Lost Domain’, a deeply personal album following the death of his father.

The live acts for the show have also been announced, featuring The Divine Comedy, Malojian and Ciaran Lavery & Ryan Vail. The night will take place on 14th November 2015 in the Mandela Hall. The Divine Comedy’s Neil Hannon will also be receiving the Oh Yeah Legend award.

The full short list is as follows:

A Plastic Rose – ‘Flickering Light of an Inner War’

And So I Watch You From Afar – ‘Heirs’

Axis Of – ‘The Mid Brae Inn’

BeeMickSee – ‘Belfast Yank’

Ciaran Lavery and Ryan Vail – ‘Sea Legs’

Duke Special – ‘Look Out Machines’

The Lost Brothers – ‘New Songs Of Dawn And Dust’
