While we love to focus our attention on musicians and bands from Northern Ireland, we receive submissions from all over the world. Our new No Fixed Abode feature will shine a light on some of these other artists.
Rowan – I Had A Dream
Sweeping indie folk from Irish trio Rowan. The song is about falling in love with someone within a dream, and then waking up to a bleaker world, realising the love has left. Primarily the individual members worked for other artists as session musicians, but this leaves us in doubt it is the right decision to strike out on their own.
Honas – I Can Get You Out Of This
The 4th single from Honas tackles the issue of mental health in a stirring manner. Beautiful vocals paired with a gentle opening set things up but it is the repetition of “I can’t take it” that really hits home before the slightly trippy drums a nice texture to proceedings.
Sunnbrella – It’s Cool
Sun drenched indie is the order of the day from Sunnbrella. Throw in some dreamy vocals from Prague-born, London-based musician David Zbirka. It is a shame this was released after summer passed, as it could easily have dominated our playlists.
JANE – Sooner Or Later
Sooner or Later marks the first release of Manchester’s JANE. They are off to a good start with shimmering guitars and hazy synths combining to produce an upbeat indie anthem to be proud of.
FOXHAUNT – Out Of Control
York’s FOXHAUNT aim for a punchy alt rock anthem on their latest. Out of Control delivers with punchy guitars, crunchy basslines and soaring vocals. For fans of of Young Guns and older You Me At Six.
Jarle Skavhellen – Young As The Morning Dew (featuring Ciaran Lavery)
The Norwegian folk artist Jarle Skavhellen’s new single is of particular interest to us as it features long time local favourite Ciaran Lavery. Having toured together through Europe, the two combined on the wistful and soothing Young As The Morning Dew over lockdown. Their distinctive vocals make for an inspiring listen.
Pale Moon – Stranger
Made up of Nata and Árni. She is from Siberia, he is from Iceland. The duo offer up a melancholic trip soundtracked by some honest and heartfelt vocals.
Jordan Red – Way Down
Spicing things up with a little harder rock in this batch of songs is Jordan Red. Taken from their forthcoming album, Hands That Build The World, Way Down offers up an energetic and memorable alt rock anthem.
Weeknites – Body Temp Spirit
Mixed by Chris Walla of Death Cab For Cutie fame, Body Temp Spirits is a coming of age tune set to delight. Full of breezy vocals, and chock full of melodic textures, it is well worth a dive into the Seattle natives work.
