Uber Glitterati – Uber Glitterati

Uber Glitterati – Uber Glitterati

An unexpected twist hits the foray as an explosive range of beats and atmospheric keys start off on ‘Australia’. Honestly? this isn’t my kind of music at all, but they are very original within the local scene as I’ve heard no other band that sound quite like them. In addition to their originality; they feature one man and one woman. Boy do they create a lot of sound.
That IS impressive.

The synths, programming and guitar are all controlled by multi-talented creator Stevie Mac and his music fits along pleasantly with the beautifully elegant vocalist of Elizabeth McGeown. The vibe changes slightly as the beginning of ‘Tilt’ kicks off with a jilted guitar structure – my personal favourite song from the EP. This song has a definite ‘Blondie’ signature sound, taking anybody right back to the 80’s and making you want to dance with Scarface. I can almost imagine a Cuban immigrant escaping the dance drug boss on an 80’s dance floor.

The next song ‘Stood In Line’ reminds me of another 80’s film – Dirty Dancing! It’s all this experimenting on the keys propelling through my dance veins. This is fun, frivolous and happy music not to be taken seriously and to enjoy before an intended night out painting the town red.

Ambient soundscapes start up on ‘Broke My Cool’ along with strident synths that would envelope everybody on the dance floor. Uplifting enlightened vocals carry the music through with McGeown’s high harmonized singing reminding me a little of Kate Bush’s avant garde singing style. I get the sense that Mac and McGeown are both enjoying each others talents together to create something they enjoy doing. One can only wonder what they will come up with next.
