Today on the site we bring you the first-ever play of the debut single from new bedroom pop act Girl For Sale. The headline song from an upcoming EP, the details of which remain hidden to us minus the name; Seaspeak. In the meantime, we have the chill waves of ‘Like Me Like That‘ to keep us company, and its a gorgeous debut. A chorus of lockdown recorded voices that spread ‘from Omagh to Oregon’ provide the front line on a track that’s led from the back – with wistful, lo-fi guitar, alternative production tricks and hazy singing providing some much-welcomed twists and turns.
The moniker of longtime Irish music advocate Candice Cathers, GFS is already an accomplished and mature-sounding project. The production on this first single keeps things buzzy and warm, whilst squeaky clean enough to let the vocals shine through the instrumentation. Inspired as much by cramped bedrooms and coastal horizons as it is by Broken Social Scene and Maggie Rogers, ‘Like Me…’ has an undeniably contemporary sound and tells a universal story.
“It’s a song about meeting someone for the first time in a long time, and convincing yourself that you only like them in a casual, detached, chill girl way.” – GIRL FOR SALE
‘Like Me Like That’ is available on all streaming platforms from the 23rd of September. Stay tuned for more information on the Seaspeak EP.
