Not one for shameless self-promotion, Gaze is Ghost has kept fans waiting patiently for new music. Without fail however, those waits have been more than worthwhile.
Gaze is Ghost is the nom de plume of Strabane songwriter and composer Laura McGarrigle. The Strabane artist has produced some of the most compelling sounds in Irish music with her 2013 ‘Plume’ album and 2014’s ‘Revolvere / Murmuration’ single.
In typical fashion, Gaze is Ghost has released her latest track out of nowhere, the gorgeous ‘Feather and Bone’ from her upcoming album. Over its duration ‘Feather and Bone’ sees McGarrigle satisfy her taste for wonderfully layered sounds. The consistent drone of a piano underlies varied percussion and McGarrigle’s stunning vocals, rising often into stirring falsetto. The track melds beautiful tones and choral textures with melancholic lyrical themes, in a way not too dissimilar to Saint Sister.
‘Feather and Bone’ is a welcome and overdue return for Gaze is Ghost.
