With the wonders of modern technology and the easy access to recording software for musicians, DIY studios and home based music making has been on the rise. This ease of access has allowed many artists on a shoe string budget to bring their projects to life from the confines of their home without the need to spend big money on studio time.
Enter Radiant Silvergun, the solo music project of Dylan Robinson. Based in Belfast, Dylan has been an avid fan of the DIY approach to creating music, especially his own. Armed with nothing but his laptop and a desire to further his own production skills, Radiant Silvergun is the perfect test run to develop these skills. While listening to his latest track, ‘Your Control’, you would not think that this was created in a bedroom. The level of production and mixing totally throws the listener off the trail of DIY and down the road of a professional studio and sound engineer input.
Citing many influences when it came to creating this track, Dylan hails the debut Billie Eilish album as a major influence for the style of the single especially the heavy sound produced. The use of the kick drum and looping snare with a minimal melody provided by a xylophone creates a massive sound that just fills the room. The mixing and mastering of this track really shows off that even though sonically it is very minimal this song really is larger than life with some shrewd producing skills.
