Belfast songwriter Benjamin Hamilton only embarked on the career of a solo songwriter a relatively short time ago, with the first music of this new endeavour released a mere few months ago. Perhaps better known for his time with Northern Irish favourites Emerald Armada, Hamilton’s new music takes another direction, especially on new single ‘First Light’.
While October release ‘Colour’ still had the big energetic choruses of his previous band, ‘First Light’ takes Hamilton to new places entirely. The track is a slow burner as a repeating motif echoes underneath a palette of reverb soaked piano and Hamilton effect-laden voice. ‘First Light’ doesn’t attempt to grab the listener but like second album Bon Iver is heavy on atmosphere. Mirroring the track, the Thomas Camblin directed video plots a dreamy, neon sunrise as Hamilton takes his first steps into his new music career.
