There is a real pleasure in supporting a group of musicians at the beginning of their careers and watching them develop into a band that everyone is talking about. Rather smugly on our part, we are talking about the seemingly unstoppable, Brand New Friend.
Following their success in our Kickstart competition, the band ramped things up with a packed schedule of gigs that has seen them play venues on both sides of the border. They can also namedrop the likes of Phil Taggart, Tom Robinson and Stuart Bailie as fans of their work, which is no mean feat for any musician.
As the winners of our Kickstart competition in 2016 we sent the band to Millbank Studios to record a previously unreleased track and have it filmed by Dog Kennel Productions. The fruit of their labour is ‘Mediocre At Best’ which you can check out below. Clocking in at just over two minutes, ‘Mediocre At Best‘ is exactly the shot of angst ridden lo-fi pop infused rock that we have come to expect from Brand New Friend. It is safe to say we are still smitten and eagerly anticipating their next EP which should drop around May 2017.
