Single number two from the Berlin band’s forthcoming EP Just Friends is an energetic and in-your-face track which the band have worked on and re-worked since 2016. Party Fears‘ ‘Sun King II’ is full of vitriol about our complacency at world events with the video a throwback to the 1980’s with disco blacklights and fluorescent body paint, even the slow-motion captures are reminiscent of early Miami Vice. It’s all sharp, jumpy cuts and punchy movement which serves to compliment the directness and aggression of the music.
Northern Irish native Maggie Devlin’s direct and confrontational vocals bring P J Harvey’s England Shakes to mind and Eilis Frawley’s angry and driving drum rhythms keep this moving along at a great pace. The band themselves describe this as a post-punk scream and that it surely is; it’s definitely a track that is hard to ignore and an anthemic piece of work.
