New Belfast duo The Darkling Air recently released their debut single and video, and it’s more than a little exciting. In ‘Storyline’, the duo, comprised of Rachel McCarthy and Michael Keeney, have crafted a beautiful, enthralling piece of music.
The two-piece first introduced themselves with a debut show in the Empire Music Hall back in January under the name Darkling. Since then they have teased us with photos and sneak previews before the release of ‘Storyline’ last month. The single is a five minute emotional piece featuring McCarthy’s vocals over a stirring bed of sound in piano and strings. The accompanying black and white video is directed by the band’s Rachel McCarthy herself and features another talented local musician in Isobel Anderson, who also provides backing vocals on the track.
‘Storyline’ is a wonderful introduction to The Darkling Air, and marks them out as ones to watch. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too much longer, as the band will be launching their debut album later this month as part of Bangor’s Open House festival. The launch takes place in Queen’s Parade Church on Thursday 25th August, with support from David C Clements. Tickets are available from the Open House website here.
