Belfast grunge outfit Black Mono impressed us with their debut EP Like A Vein that seemed to hark back to the mid nineties when grunge rock was king. Following a quiet spell the band have unveiled a performance video for the first track off that EP, ‘Sundown’.
Sadly instead of propelling the band forward, ‘Sundown’ is a farewell of sorts. While Black Mono is not officially finished, the band are now on hiatus for the foreseeable future.
‘Sundown’ may be a largely instrumental track but it is punctuated by a stoner rock riff and the some rather throaty vocals that Courtney Love would admire.
“With Sundown we explored an instrumental side of ourselves to open up our EP ‘Like A Vein.’ We went back to the studio to record a 3 track EP, 2 of which were going to be a challenge for us as they ended up slightly more experimental and longer in length than our previous efforts. It came together at one of our rehearsals and it offers an introduction to the 3 of us mainly playing our instruments, who we are and what we sounded like. The performance music video for ‘Sundown’ is an opportunity for people to see what we look like when performing live. For anyone who hasn’t seen us at a live gig yet, this is the perfect chance to check us out.”
