John Andrews is one to watch in Belfast and the release of debut single ‘OMG‘ is about to knock it out of the park as one of the best recent releases from the Northern Irish music scene.
‘OMG’ is one of those perfect three minute songs that at the end makes you pause, think “f**k…” and immediately hit repeat.
‘OMG’ opens with a distant rumble before Andrews’ distinctive vocal starts creeping in. Something dark is coming.
We’re taken on a journey of torment, regret and turmoil as Andrews describes a difficult period in his life. Lyrically, he’s as cutting and brutally honest as ever, and the production allows his words to sit front and centre. “I was serving time way before the sentence given,” and “I’ve been working so hard to be living a dream, five years to be living this clean,” stand out in a song packed with great lines.
From the opening rumble to the huge repeating chorus, the song’s production is excellent. Working with Danny Saber (Marilyn Manson, Korn), Andrews has transformed from a solo acoustic artist to a fully fledged band leader. The rhythm section of Michael and Shea McCrea lead the second verse, while Joel Irvine’s lead guitar cuts like glass through the chorus. All the way through ‘OMG’ though, it’s Andrews’ voice rapping, singing and howling which will stay with you. Everything about how Andrews is feeling is in three simple words. Oh. My. God.
With DanDanDann Productions, Andrews has released a stunning video which goes perfectly with the track.
