Nickelback with support from Monster Truck
Monday 10th October 2016 – SSE Arena, Belfast
Marmite, you either love it or you hate it and that can be said about some bands primarily this act who made their huge return to Belfast after 8 years, they are of course Canadian sensations Nickelback. Returning to the SSE Arena, Belfast and performing all the greatest hits, Chad Kroeger and the boys were ready for the party of the century.
Before the headliners though, the crowd were introduced to another Canadian band, Monster Truck, who made their Belfast debut on the night. With a 45 minute set the guys barely stopped for a breather as they rocked their way on one of the biggest stages in Belfast. It was nice that not only did lead vocalist Jon Harvey gave a shout to the Stena Line Belfast Giant’s hockey team but they even had a special guest in the form of Nickelback guitarist Ryan Peake who joined in on the fun.
With the crowd beginning to grow in numbers and patience it wasn’t long until 9 o’clock hit and the lights went off and the guys everyone was there to see took to the stage, prepared to give the Belfast crowd the night of their lives. Compared to when Nickelback were here 8 years ago the band were a lot more relaxed this time around with lead vocalist Chad Kroeger having a lot more banter between the audience and the band. This could have been down to the fact that they weren’t there to promote a new album but just straight hit after hit after hit, with the audience hanging on every word. Performing classics as the energetic “Animals” to the soothing sounds of “Lullaby” to rounding the set off with “Burn It The Ground” the Canadian quartet showed to all the haters off the world that they still have what it takes to put on one hell of a show, even without the need for fireworks, pyrotechnics and smoke compared to their last performance in the arena. Not only was it great to see these guys again but good to see they can still rock as hard as ever, hopefully it won’t take another 8 years until they come back.
