Dea Matrona’s newest album, Hate That I Care, was recorded, written and produced by the band themselves. The album touches upon female empowerment, identity, imposter syndrome and the feeling of being an outsider.

The first song on the album, also called ‘Hate That I Care’, has a rawness that confronts expectations with striking honesty. This tune elevates their formidable sound into something terrific and unique. The melody and lyricism is super catchy and is truly powerful and engaging.

On a personal level ‘My Own Party’ was one of the stand out moments, captivating in its own introspection. It reminds us of that relatable feeling of vulnerability, alongside having a sense of power and willingness behind it.

The politically charged song ‘A Rebel Song’ cannot be ignored with its deep rooted passionate shining through. It could have several interpretations and meanings. This song, in my view, is very reminiscent of the deep-rooted problems within NI and feels personal for both the listener and the artist.

Dea Matrona’s entire album displays a new level to their sound and creates an unheard depth to the meaning of what they are illustrating through their music. This album is personal and really does confront the chaos of self-discovery with striking honesty.
