EP opener ‘Cut my cord’ kicks with a stop start riff, leading into some spacey guitar, followed by some frenetic playing from the Derry three piece. Dylan Bradley’s vocals are raspy (as they are throughout) and sound like they are provided by somebody more advanced in years (the members are all only 18).
The title track has a pop-punk influence to it, but refreshingly manages to avoid the “annoying whiny” vocals often associated with the genre. A slight hint of once again reformed At-The Drive in is also apparent in the intricate main riff. ‘Without Earplugs’ slows the pace down (albeit briefly) – some delicate bass playing leading into a jagged sounding beast of a tune. Closer ‘Me & You’ could have been written by The Pixies over twenty years ago, with a very Kim Deal sounding bass line leading into a humongous fuzzy riff.
Overall, this is a very assured release-vocally, lyrically and musically (at times sounding like a younger version of fellow Stroke City muckers Fighting With Wire). The band have already toured extensively and on the evidence of this release they may indeed become natural successors to their previously mentioned hometown heroes.
