Robyn G Shiels – Underneath the Night of Stars

robyn g shiels - blood of the innocents

It is finally here. Robyn G Shiels long anticipated album has arrived and it has been worth the wait.

Robyn’s dark, melodic sound throughout sets a haunting scene. Beautifully constructed with a simple elegance mixed in with the crackle of vinyl as it plays sets him apart from your run of the mill singer songwriter.

The opening track ‘If Now is an Echo’ is hypnotic. Its slow drum beat and enveloping the velvet vocals cumulating into an orchestra of accordion, guitar and percussion is beautiful. The haunting ‘This Deathly Charm’ is set apart with an underlying whistling that sends you into a world of old stories and wonderment, a very rare skill to be able to make your listener picture the song… genius.

‘The First to Know’ is perfection. Your senses are greeted and overpowered by a repetitive piano and soothing vocal that seems effortless. Flip over the record to ‘Hello Death’ and we are getting melodic guitars and smooth yet gritty vocals that leave your senses in a blur. ‘When Love it Starts Leaving’ is heavy, hard hitting guitar in smooth but hard hitting riffs and perfectly timed pauses and beats.

Robyn is a true musician. Clearly born to do nothing else but music. His elegance in penmanship, the ear to piece the music together. With the feel and sound of Bob Dylan from start to finish, this is special. The beauty of this album non stop. You can tell why this has taken so long to come to fruition. 6 years in the making. It is simplistic beauty. Its dark, honest, raw lyrics and deep undercurrent are captivating. One of our undeniable talents.
