Nathan Reid – Kickstarter

Nathan Reid is a Belfast musician that has been on our radar for a while now. We absolutely love his unique playing style and immaculate intricacy. We thought we’d let you know that the man himself has just launched a Kickstart Campaign in order to finance his solo guitar project ‘These Three Trees’ EP.

We spoke to Nathan to get an idea of why he wanted to Crowdsource this Project:  ‘I decided to go down this route because I wanted to take control into my own hands really. Everybody knows the internet has had a massive effect on the music industry whether that be for good or bad. But either way, it is now possible for musicians to stay independent and make a living without having to sign up to a label. Of course label’s have their benefits, and in fact i’m just about to launch a new record label off my own… But it’s not for everyone. I just think crowdsourcing is a great thing. It really gets the fans involved and makes everyone a part of something.’

Nathan on his Goals for this Project and Incentives: ‘The main goal is to get the music out and the music heard. So I decided to do the album in a different number of ways. There’s just the online download being the cheapest reward and then it goes up to signed and personalized copy’s and even 8 limited “artist series” which the whole ep has been completely made from scratch by myself, with original artwork. We have an exclusive gig, along with your limited edition tee’s and exclusive prints etc. Then the big one… I’m a keen surfer, so the big reward is for you and a friend to spend an entire day with me. We’ll go up the coast, we’ll surf and have some beers, camp out that night on the beach, and i’ll play all night for you.’

Nathan himself isn’t a stranger to actively supporting crowdsourcing: ‘I’ve actually supported quite a few kickstarters or the similar forms, with the most recent one being Tony Wright and his VerseChorusVerse pledge.’
