Our very own Kickstart runners up Runabay have just released their first single Sequences The lads from Cushendun, Cushendall, Belfast and Peterborough are making their mark in the local music scene with their chilled out sound, perfectly blended harmonies and ambient melodies, with influences from the likes of The Shins, The Beatles and Elbow.
With their first gig being the Kickstart final at the beginning of the year, things have went from strength to strength for the Runabay guys so I caught up with lead singer John McManus to chat about the release of Sequences.
“We chose ‘Sequences‘ as our debut single as we felt it was one which had been going down particularly well at live shows. It also combines a lot of the elements which we aspire to have in our songs, for example the bright finger picking, the sweeping cello, the harmonies and the driving drum beat.
We decided to make a video as means of creating the biggest impact possible, whilst trying to announce our arrival in the most effective way. Luckily we were able to work with great people along the way, in Ben McAuley, Niall McCracken and Fearghal Mulligan.
Obviously it’s really early days but we hope you’ll be hearing plenty more from us in the coming months… We’ve a few new songs written with a view to creating an EP before the end of the summer.”
Sequences is a harmonic treat, perfectly blended with strings, percussion and vocals. Check it out here:
